Visual Effects Assistant, Feed Me, Rachel Maclean

During the Summer one of my favourite video artists put out an email asking for visual effects assistants for her new film "Feed Me". I jumped at the chance! I was quite nervous as I was only really a first year with not a whole lot of experience. Once I got started I felt completely comfortable with what I was doing.

Basically my job was to key out all backgrounds and to track eyes and make them enlarged. Rachel plays all characters in her film including children, she wears an array of different prosthetics for her different characters. When she was playing a child, that was when the eye enlargement was needed.

I lost the majority of the effects I did with my hardrive so I cant show any footage of what I did but I did get some rather shitey photographs and one fairly good screenshot.

Here you can see the eye enlargement slightly

As for the keying alot of the time I had to make tracking masks for the characters as the colours did not key properly. I dont have evidence of this becuase of my bloody hardrive! but I swear I did do it..........

When my bloody hardrive packed in this year I lost the effects Trapcode I was using for the keying and one of the largest scenes I edited, luckily everything was already sent off but it was bloody annoying! I couldn't render out any of the work I had done to show. The film however will be screened in the Scottish National Gallery of Modern art in Edinburgh and also at the GFT on the 17th of January if you would like to see it.
Here are some picture from the film, where you can see more eye enlargement.

Also here is an interview with Rachel
