I was quite excited about this project and initially had the idea of doing something to do with gender, posing questions like, what if women could procreate without men ? what would that mean for their gender, would they be oppressed and shoved out of society or would they be protected?

In the first workshop we had to do sand casting, my group decided to cast nuts because they could be used to represent fertility (lol). we were thinking about peanuts because they have 2 nuts inside them so it was kind of like one couldn't be without the other. We also thought about cashews because they look a bit foetal.
When we brought the peanut out of the cast it had a sort of halo around it and looked like it was on a plinth. It looked like a deity. We were starting to think that men could worship this peanut as a holy representation of their forgotten fertility.
After that we had a phonotrope workshop which wasn't very successful for me.
After that we had a brain storming session, my group started to talk alot about isolation ad government control. We were thinking about how the government finds it beneficial for people to live with smaller amounts of people becuase the more epople living on their own the more houses they can sell and the more houses lived in means more money for the government. I wasn't going to be in for the forming of the groups session so I just asked Pamela if I could be in her group because we had similar ideas. We combined the ideas of isolation, global warming and artificial food to make a new world underwater.
When I came back to meet my group they told me their idea of a dystopian world underwater where the government is trying to hide from the people that there is a habitable world above. The people live in isolated pods where their only interaction is to go and eat together. We started to think alot into the background of why they were all under water and then we started to create a revolution against the regime.
We started to plan our logo and also design the pod housing

After intitial sketching and brainstorming I went on to design the model in maya
Maya Sketches
Later on I added some texture to one of the pod examples.
For the video I was thinking of doing something fairly abstract and quite dark. I researched a couple videos but later on we decided on something a little bit different.

After talking to Pamela we thought wed do the standard interrupted broadcast. we thoguht their should be a clear contrast between the very digital and polished government broadcast and the very rough and ready interruption. We stuck our posters all over Eca and filmed them. WE thoguth this would give clarity to those that had seen the symbols around but didn't know what they were. The purpose of this video is to set off the revolution, they have gained enough followers to be strong enough to overthrow the government, they now just need this last push. One thing to note about this video is that it glitches when the woman says "completion will be soon" This is to represent how this phrase has been said to the Depths for years and that in reality completion will never be soon. WE had thought we could have a date in the corner and it could go down as it glitches to show how many times this phrase has been said but we decided not to.

The interruption video was pretty easy, we just got some static footage and put it over the top. For the psa we basically just had a clean graphic that Pamela drew and then textured the Maya model, added a camera and then took it into after effects to add a water background. For the glitching we just used a warp plug in in after effects and then dropped in static in premeire. The sound was from 2 voice generators and the static sound was from freesound. the music was from Hazel Turnbull. Overall I was pretty chuffed with how this video came out.
After the feedback we realised that we didnt have a purpose for the revolution. We started to brainstorm and thought that people could be revolting because of the poor artificial food quality, also the oxygen levels could be inadequate due to them being under water aswell as a lack of exposure to sunlight. There could be an entire lack of health due to them being in such an artificial world, also they are not free to roam whenever they please, they can only see one another during meal times. Possibly someone broke put of the pods and saw the above world, they saw maybe evidence of humans roaming on the land and freely interacting with one another and nature. This seems like a much healthier lifestyle. Also they essentially need to remove themselves from the pods because while they could overthrow the government and live together in the pod, they are still living in a government owned facility which will cause dangers, the only escape would seem to be to live in the above and flee from the government.
