Edinburgh project improvements

I've crawled out of my hole and taken a look back at what isn't actually a terrible film now that I rewatch it. I mean literally we thought we'd spawned a Satan baby with this video but now that I looked at it, its not amazing but its certainly not crap either, I think with what we have we could make a bit of a better film, maybe even a rather good film.
I think one of the main problems with this project is that back footage of walking through the Grassmarket. I think its pretty clunky not to mention we have a wee friend in the grass with us.
"hello there sir!"

I think mostly because of shyness and the fact that I didn't really feel like I was capable enough at animation to suggest too much to the group film, I didn't really put too many of my ideas forward. Now I think I'll suggest what I would change about this film.
when I was in college I actually did a full project on streets, I cant believe I didn't refer to this when I was working on this project. I will now however.

This project was about an abandoned town
What I like about this project is I kind of thought about the type of people that suddenly disappeared from this town I thought of specific personalities. I think that's maybe missing from our project possibly?
I liked the idea of having the Grassmarket over run with grass, but I think that if it was over run with grass then it would probably be abandoned and suddenly the grass overtook it.
If I were to go about this project I would ask myself these questions,
If the street is abandoned why did the people leave?
If the street is not abandoned, how do the people deal with living amongst the grass?
Did the grass possibly chase them out of the street?
What was the street like before the grass took over?

I went back to Grassmarket and tried to take a few photos but I was scared off by several drunk lads wanting their photo taken

I got as far as this building, Friday nights are not the best time to photograph the Grassmarket. What I did find with photographing it is its not the most inspiring place visually, for me anyway.

I think to tell a good story you should come up with a background, I quite like the idea of the grass suddenly overtaking the street and the people had to leave.
However maybe I'm recycling old ideas too much
Our original idea I think was to have the Grassmarket overtaken by the grass and as the person went through he would discover different pieces of history about it. The shop fronts would be the present day representation. Honestly I think this idea is a bit boring now that I look back.
I like to think about how people would react to strange situations, so making a film about how the people of grass market live amongst masses of grass would be quite fun I think.
Maybe having it in a sort of documentary story telling style, where there is a voice over telling of the day when the Grassmarket began to grow grass. I was thinking that the people of grass market wouldn't know what grass was because it never grew there.

I was inspired by "Brother" by Adam Elliot, I really like the deadpan voice over.
Here is my wee animatic I made for the new film. Its not very pleasing on the eye but you get the idea I think.

My dad and i certainly aren't voice actors, I don't know how I feel about my dads dutch accent, i think its also hard to get past the fact that I cant really detach the voice from my dad so it adds another dimension to the film for me that other people wont have. I hope the voice overs aren't too clunky though and hopefully convey the story in a rather funny way.

This is kind of how I'd like the characters to look, but maybe a bit more refined and cleaned up.
But yeah I enjoy this idea alot more than our previous one and would actually quite like to make this film if I ever have the time.
